Yesterday
in the United State, The Department of Homeland Security has issued out its new
extreme immigration enforcement guidelines, telling the interior and border
enforcement agencies on how to go about President Donald Trump’s immigration
and border policy, according to gothamist news the memo which leaked out during
the weekend has faced series of criticism, by members of the public.
The Director
of the American Civil Liberties Union Immigrants’ Rights Project Omar Jadwat in
a statement said "These memos confirm that
the Trump administration is
willing to trample on due process, human decency, [and] the well-being of
communities... in pursuit of a hyper-aggressive mass deportation policy,"
He added
"The courts and public will not allow this un-American dream to become a
reality,"
The just
released guideline major on border and deportation policies, which undermined
Barack Obama policy which focus on convicted felons and individuals on
terrorism watch lists. Though President Trump said on the campaign trial that
he would focus on removing "criminals" from the
country, the definition of criminal has been broadly expanded to include any
person who is in the United States without a visa. There are an estimated 11
million undocumented immigrants in the US.
The
guidelines also call for expedited removal of all undocumented immigrants who
have been in the country for less than two years—a procedure currently only
applicable in cases where a person has been in the United States for less than
two weeks and is within 100 miles of the US border.
It
also call for the strengthening Section 287(g) of the INA authorizes written agreements with a
state or political subdivision to authorize qualified officers or employees to
perform the functions of an immigration officer. Empowering state and local law
enforcement agencies to assist in the enforcement of federal immigration law is
critical to an effective enforcement strategy, and CBP and ICE will work with
interested and eligible jurisdictions.
President Donald Trump has also ordered the heads of all executive departments to identify and
quantify all sources of direct and indirect federal aid or assistance to the
government of Mexico. DHS will identify all sources of aid for each last five
fiscal years.
He
also order DHS to immediately
identify and allocate all sources of available funding for the planning,
design, construction, and maintenance of a wall, including the attendant
lighting, technology (including sensors), as well as patrol and access roads,
and develop requirements for total ownership cost of this project. To build
wall in between the Mexican border was part of Trumps campaign, to curb down
the level of immigrants entering US from Mexico illegally.
